Moraine Park Campground in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park switched to winter operations on October 19. The park’s only campground open through winter, it assigns sites first come, first served rather than using the summer reservation system. A late-fall RV visit calls for planning water supplies and wastewater disposal as well as electricity.
First-Come Winter Sites, with Electricity in Loops B and C
The 2026–2027 winter guide lists sites 1–62 in Loop A and Loops B, C and E as operating areas. Parties of eight or more use the group sites in Loop E. Standard nonelectric sites cost $30 per night and electric sites $55. These are not advance reservations guaranteeing a vacancy or a particular site.
Electric hookups are available only in Loops B and C. The park says its rehabilitation project added 20-, 30- and 50-amp connections at 49 sites. Some sites received accessible concrete pads and raised fire rings, but amenities are not identical throughout the campground. The park’s campground guide lists a 40-foot maximum for RVs and trailers at Moraine Park. Check the parking space at the individual site.
Plan for Water and Wastewater Outside the Park
The official page’s winter amenities section says the dump station and RV water-fill facilities are shut down for winter. Conflicting wording farther down the same page still describes them as available. Do not arrive counting on using them: call park information at 970-586-1206 to confirm. Until availability is established, plan to fill water and empty holding tanks outside the park. Individual sites have no water hookups.
Water and restrooms are listed for Loops A and C, with vault toilets in Loops B and E. Firewood and ice are not sold at the campground in winter, so pick up supplies in Estes Park. Camping fees can be paid through Scan & Pay in the Recreation.gov app or at the Beaver Meadows and Fall River entrances.
Park staff do not clear snow from individual sites. Major park roads take priority, and campground road plowing can also be delayed, so bring a shovel and winter camping equipment. Check the campground information and official road conditions before departure. A winter operating season does not guarantee access to every road or site.
