A mild Halloween forecast on Skidaway Island comes with a breezy afternoon and a separate beach hazard. The National Weather Service’s 6:57 a.m. EDT October 31 forecast calls for a high near 75°F, with northeast winds strengthening to 16–21 mph and gusts reaching 30 mph. That matters for RV travelers heading through the Savannah area even without rain in the daytime forecast: an outdoor campsite setup and a beach excursion require different checks.
Areas Affected
The point forecast covers Skidaway Island near 31.96°N, 81.06°W. Gusts are forecast to remain near 28 mph Saturday night, with a low around 62°F. Sunday is expected to stay mostly cloudy, reaching about 73°F with gusts near 29 mph. These are forecast values, not measured conditions at every campsite. The forecast is valid from 8 a.m. EDT October 31 through 6 p.m. EST November 6.
A separate NWS statement issued at 6:51 a.m. EDT places Georgia beaches under a high rip-current risk through Saturday evening, with the listed expiration at 8 p.m. EDT. It covers coastal Bryan, Chatham, Liberty and McIntosh counties. Skidaway’s campground and marsh trails should not be confused with an ocean swimming beach; the warning becomes especially relevant if the day’s itinerary includes Tybee or another exposed beach. NWS cautions that dangerous currents can carry swimmers offshore.
What RV Travelers Need to Know
Skidaway Island State Park is carrying out a partial campground renovation that began February 2, 2026 and was scheduled for one year. The park lists tent, trailer and RV camping, with sewer hookups at some sites, but a park-wide facility count is not a measure of tonight’s available spaces. Confirm the selected site and its services through the official reservation link before driving to 52 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, GA 31411.
For walks from camp, check closures separately from the weather. Georgia State Parks currently lists the Avian Trail closed because of bridge damage and also closes the observation tower. Those notices do not identify the weather forecast as their cause. Plan around the posted restrictions, and secure loose campsite items before the afternoon wind increases rather than assuming sheltered-looking surroundings will eliminate gusts.
Rain chances increase later in the forecast: 30% after 2 a.m. Sunday night and 40% Monday. Travelers extending their stay should check the updated point forecast before moving their rig or planning another outdoor day. The state park lists daily hours of 7 a.m.–10 p.m. and office hours of 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; its ParkPass parking charge is separate from the reservation, with overnight guests paying it once per vehicle during the stay. Verify those arrangements alongside the campsite booking.
