Grand Canyon’s South Rim is heading into a sunny but cold midweek stretch, with the National Weather Service forecasting a Wednesday high of 53°F followed by a clear night near 30°F. For RV travelers arriving November 4, that temperature swing comes alongside a separate planning constraint: the National Park Service continues to list Mather Campground as dry camping only under Stage 4 water restrictions.
Areas Affected
The forecast applies to the Grand Canyon point near Grand Canyon Village at 6,804 feet. In the forecast updated at 11:32 p.m. MST November 3, southwest winds of 7–14 mph Wednesday are expected to turn northwest, with gusts up to 24 mph. Winds should ease Wednesday night. These are forecast conditions for the rim, not observations from the canyon bottom.
Thursday is forecast to reach 53°F, with an overnight low near 32°F. Friday and Saturday remain sunny in the outlook, with highs around 54–55°F. The forecast is valid from midnight November 4 through the evening of November 10; travelers staying several nights should check for updates rather than treating a clear daytime forecast as assurance of warm nights.
What RV Travelers Need to Know
The park’s current operations page lists Mather Campground as open year-round, but without hookups and with dry camping required until further notice. Bring the water needed for the stay and confirm the campground’s current arrangements before arriving. The same page lists Trailer Village and the laundry and showers at Camper Services as closed under the water restrictions. A favorable weather forecast does not change those operating notices.
Reservations are recommended at Mather through November 30 and can be made up to six months ahead. NPS also lists 15 first-come, first-served sites offered at the campground office at 8 a.m. That is an alternative to check, not a guarantee that a space suitable for a particular RV will be available. Use the official campground reservation information and verify the site’s parking capacity before committing to a route.
Desert View and North Rim campgrounds are closed for the season, according to the operations update. They should not be treated as fallback overnight stops if a South Rim reservation falls through. NPS also prohibits outdoor wood fires under the current restrictions, so a campfire is not an available substitute for planning for the cold.
The South and East entrances provide year-round access, but road conditions and campground service are separate checks. Before driving in, consult the park’s weather-and-road information and current operations page, then review the latest NWS forecast. For a daytime visit in a larger rig, NPS identifies designated RV parking areas on the South Rim and recommends parking once and using the free village shuttles.
