[Nevada] Lake Mead Roads Reopen After Flooding, but East Lake Mead Parkway Remains Closed

Lake Mead’s Boulder Basin is entering another wet forecast period with a changed road-access picture. NPS reports that crews have cleared Lakeshore Road and Northshore Road after October 30 flash flooding and both are fully open. East Lake Mead Parkway remains closed just outside the park boundary because of flood damage and debris, so a route that looks direct on a map may still be unavailable.

Areas Affected

The National Weather Service forecast for 4 miles northeast of Boulder City, near the Boulder Beach approach, was updated at 2:42 a.m. PDT October 31. It calls for a 30% rain chance Saturday, mainly before 1 p.m., with a high near 74°F and gusts up to 22 mph. Those conditions describe one forecast point, not every part of the large recreation area.

Rain and thunderstorms are forecast overnight, with an 80% precipitation chance and a low around 64°F. Sunday’s rain chance is 70%, mainly before 8 a.m.; south winds could gust to 31 mph. The forecast improves afterward, but improving weather does not by itself reopen a damaged road or establish that every wash crossing is clear.

For Boulder Beach access, the park’s current notice directs visitors to enter via Boulder City and Highway 93 or via Lake Mead Boulevard. That instruction is distinct from East Lake Mead Parkway, which remains closed outside the boundary. Follow current barriers and park routing rather than reusing directions saved before the flooding.

What RV Travelers Need to Know

Boulder Beach’s developed campground normally operates year-round and has paved sites suitable for large RVs, with restrooms and water spigots. NPS-operated campsites do not have hookups; full-hookup RV parks are run separately by concessioners. Confirm the correct property, arrival route and reservation before towing in, rather than assuming the similarly named camping options provide the same services.

Government Wash is not a substitute for a closed approach or an unavailable campsite. A separate NPS notice anticipates reopening Government Wash campground and 8.0 Mile Road to vehicle access and overnight camping in late November. No fixed reopening date is stated, and that anticipated schedule should not be treated as current permission to camp there.

With renewed rain in the forecast, recheck NPS alerts immediately before departure. The road reopenings are a verified improvement, not a guarantee against new restrictions. Avoid committing to an arrival time that leaves no flexibility if the official approach changes again.
