Places we discover.
Stories we carry.
Moraine Park has entered its first-come, first-served winter season, with nonelectric sites at $30 per night. Confirm RV water-fill and dump-station availability before relying on those facilities.
Daytona International Speedway hosts an RV sales and display event November 5–8, open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission and parking are free; food sales and mobility-aid rentals are not provided.
In San Antonio, our two couples share a farewell hamburger before taking different routes east. With the city’s hotel prices high, my wife and I find ourselves drawn back to a campground.
Missouri’s October 23 foliage report described changing hickories, red maples and lingering green in the Ozarks. At Big Spring, check individual camping dates and winter water arrangements.
Yosemite Valley was forecast to be sunny on Tuesday, October 27, with a high of 66°F and a low of 39°F. Travelers also needed to consider possible weekend precipitation, seasonal campground changes, weekday road work, and overnight parking restrictions at higher elevations.
Fog was forecast to clear from the Great Sand Dunes Visitor Center area on the morning of October 27, followed by clear weather. Recent rain had deepened water crossings and left mud on Medano Pass, so clear skies alone were not a reliable measure of travel conditions.
The forecast point inland at Acadia called for a low of 30°F on the night of October 27. With all park campgrounds closed for the year, visitors should confirm lodging outside the park and vehicle restrictions before coastal or mountain-road trips.
Summer heat at Big Bend is followed by a campsite that must be booked online where I cannot get a signal. A wrong turn and an unsuitable RV park end with a downpour and a motel.
Doughton Park Campground entered its winter closure on October 26. Even if nearby Parkway roads are open, camping is not available, so late-fall RV travelers need to arrange lodging elsewhere.
