A High Wind Warning was in effect for the Massachusetts and Rhode Island coasts, including Cape Cod, from 8 a.m. September 25 through 2 a.m. September 27. With gusts up to 60 mph and possible power outages, campers needed to confirm weekend travel and shelter arrangements in advance.
Thunderstorms were expected to develop across the mountains and foothills northeast of Phoenix during the afternoon and evening of September 23. RV travelers around McDowell Mountain needed to prepare not only for localized heavy rain, but also for outflow winds and dust that could reduce visibility well beyond areas receiving rain.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for the Sierra County lake region of New Mexico through midnight on September 23. Campers at Elephant Butte should not rely on low lake levels for reassurance and should instead monitor normally dry channels and campground access roads.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect for Delaware beaches and New Jersey’s Atlantic coast until 8 p.m. on September 24. RV travelers should weigh gusts up to 50 mph and the potential for coastal flooding around high tide when planning campground travel.
Black Rock Campground lists RVs up to 35 feet, but individual sites can impose additional vehicle-type and height restrictions. Site 041 does not accept Class A motorhomes or fifth wheels, so a length filter alone is not enough for booking.
At Great Sand Dunes, Piñon Flats is reservation-only, and RVs or the combined length of a tow vehicle and trailer cannot exceed 35 feet. Individual sites may be shorter, and with no hookups, fall stays require planning for length, power, and cold weather.
Trailer Village on the Grand Canyon South Rim remains closed under water restrictions, while Mather and Desert View allow dry camping only. The November water-restoration target is tentative and should not be treated as a campground reopening date.
A Coastal Flood Watch was forecast for the Outer Banks from the afternoon of September 23 through the night of September 25. Travelers should adjust Highway 12 plans in vulnerable Hatteras and Ocracoke areas, as well as coastal camping schedules, based on current road and park notices.
The flood watch around Pittsburgh was scaled back on September 22, but Ohiopyle and some mountain areas remained included until 8 a.m. on September 23. Travelers should account for another 1–2 inches of forecast rain and follow the recommended access route for large RVs at Kentuck Campground.
